Ryvo
Mille Bornes and the race to exactly one thousand
Build distance, recover from hazards and use safety cards at the right moment in Ryvo’s thousand-mile race.
In Mille Bornes, a hand full of distance cards is not enough. You need a car that can move, a clear route and a way to recover when an opponent stops you just short of the finish.
Get the journey started
Begin with six cards. Draw one on your turn, bringing your hand to seven, then play or discard one. A Go card or Right of Way safety gets your car moving. Ryvo supports two to four individual players or four players in opposing partnerships.
Partners have separate private hands but share a car, its condition and its distance. Being on the same team does not reveal your partner’s cards.
The right distance matters
Distance cards are 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200. Reach exactly 1000 without going beyond it. Each car may use only two 200 cards during the race. Under a speed limit, you can play only 25 or 50 until the restriction is removed.
A small card can therefore become more valuable near the finish than a large one you saved earlier. Check the remaining distance before discarding an apparently modest card.
Hazards and remedies
Hazards include Stop, Out of Gas, Flat Tyre, Accident and Speed Limit. The first four require a moving opposing car without another breakdown. Speed Limit is independent and can coexist with one breakdown.
Use the matching remedy to recover. Gas fixes an empty tank, a spare tyre fixes a puncture and repairs fix an accident. After those remedies you can move again without playing another Go card.
Keep a safety in mind
Right of Way protects against Stop and Speed Limit. Extra Tank covers Out of Gas, Puncture Proof covers Flat Tyre and Driving Ace covers Accident. A safety lasts for the race, clears its matching hazard and grants an extra turn with a draw.
After a hazard, a fifteen-second response window lets the target or their partner play the matching safety out of turn. It cancels the attack. The responder draws a replacement if the deck allows it, then begins a turn with another draw.
Finishing the race
The first car to reach 1000 wins. If the deck runs out, players continue with the cards still in hand without reshuffling. When every hand is empty, the greatest distance wins and tied leaders share the win. This is a single-race version, without the 700-mile extension and multi-round bonus scoring used in some editions.
